"End Jerusalem" unites the art of two creative musician personalities, both of whom have contributed an important impulse for the preservation and development of the traditional music of Ethiopia, and both of whom perfectly represent very different, separate aspects of the folk music of their nation. With puristic beauty, Asnakech Worku performs her songs (which she accompanies with the krar, the small Ethiopian lyre) in the manner of the court musicians who played for princes, kings, and emperors until just a few decades ago. There is a special magic about her since she is an unassailable authority in the male-dominated world of African master instrumentalists. Alemu Aga is the most important interpreter of contemporary times on the begena, an extraordinary instrument with thousands of years of history. According to tradition, this legendary Harp of David was brought to Earth by God Himself. The gently droning sound of the begena is usually heard during the fasting period in Ethiopia. For this CD, the Harp of David songs were recorded in their original length with complete lyrics for the first time.
