The German guitarist Andreas Heuser wants to lead us to unknown places. And that is exactly what he has done on„Unknown Places“. Beginning with the opening work „Remember Batumi“, played on an 8-string steelstring guitar, our ear are treated again and again to bizarre and suprising acoustic landscapes that move through oriental melodies and percussive string-attacks. Heuer has no musical fears and allows himself to be inspired by jazz, folk and classic as well as ethnic-music and minimalism. Not only is the richly facetted music a treat for the ears, the instrumentation is worth taking a look at and is definitely of interest for true friends of accoustic guitar music. Several pieces were played on a 10-string classical guitar, aside from the already mentioned 8-string steelstring, as well as on conventional steel and nylon string guitars. Heuser uses the extended tonal-range in the bass section of these instruments in an impressive and rewarding way. The sonorous sound of his compositions is extremely effective and the deeper-than-deep bass opens up totally new and unusual vistas in guitar playing.
