Sándor Szabó - Dreams Within Dreams

The Hungarian musician Sándor Szabó is one of the most unusual acoustic guitarists of our time. “Dreams Within Dreams” creates bizarre landscapes, corporeal and fragile, earthy and ephemeral at the same time. The subtitle to this CD is “Solo guitar music from Hungary.“. Yes, Szabó is able, as hardly any other artist, to summarize the sounds of the entire world in vibrating strings. For his new album, he transcribed Hungarian folk songs with their wonderful melodies and rhythms and combined them with modern harmonies. The result is a set of majestic atmospheric impressions, gathered together by a highly sensible musician and a true innovator of the acoustic guitar. Sándor Szabó uses an unconventional instrument especially created for him, including a 16-string steel-string guitar and an 8-string classical guitar. He was born in 1956 in Hungary, studied the music of a variety of cultures and concentrated especially on improvisation. He is a master at combining oriental sounds with modern harmonies and the folkloristic roots of his native Hungary.
