“Pop up Jazz!” For their first album together, singer Sabine Kühlich and guitarist Adam Rafferty have chosen an artistic direction which guarantees great entertainment value. Kühlich hails from Gera in Eastern Germany, whence her musical studies at various different colleges finally led her to New York. On “girl meets guitar” she hooks up with Harlem-born guitar maestro Rafferty, who has earned an excellent reputation as a versatile performer of American roots music and jazz standards.
Whether it's Paul Simon's chart-topping “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover”, the Eurythmics' new wave hit “Sweet Dreams” or Bill Withers' R&B anthem “Ain't No Sunshine”: Rafferty's creative accompaniments and Sabine Kühlich's sensual vocal timbre lend all of them a new and original character, taking them into the sophisticated realms of jazz, which in this constellation really doesn't require any more than “girl meets guitar”.
