Born in Senegal( Africa) in a half spanish and french family,Bob
BONASTRE felt in love with guitar at fourteen.Presented as one of
next best guitar players by the french jazz press,he has recently
decided to follow another road, closer to his heart.
If jazz, rock and contemporary music belong to his culture, the meeting
of the nylon strings guitar has opened for him a new direction,in
which the sound is as important as the note. Great guitarists as Claus
Boeser-Ferrari,Tim Sparks, Nguyen le or Sandor Szabo have recognized
this quality of sound. Today, he plays his own compositions in solo
concerts, introducing a very large language, made of complex harmonies,
new approachs like playing with chinese sticks, and an astonishing
three octavias voice. His music speaks about travels around the world,
taking the audience from a continent to another, with always the link
of emotion and spirituality. A music where the value of the notes
is worth as much the vertu of silence. |

Bonastre, der Klassikgitarre, E-Gitarre, Stimme und Percussion für
seine Klangmalereien einsetzt, ist von der Musik Südamerikas
beeinflusst, mit besonderer Nähe zu Musikern wie Egberto Gismonti,
Pat Metheny oder Ralph Towner. Wie diese ist er in der Lage, ein harmonisches
Umfeld zwischen ruhiger Melancholie und spannungsreichen Attacken
aufzubauen und darüber weite melodische Bögen aufzuspannen.
In seinen Stücken und Improvisationen blitzen immer wieder brilliante
Flageoletts auf, gefolgt von rasanten Bassläufen und perfekt
artikulierten Themen. Auch die Arbeit mit dem präparierten Instrument
ist ihm nicht fremd: so lässt Bonastre seine Klassikgitarre im
Titel „Kaolack“ wie eine Mischung aus afrikanischem Daumenklavier
und verzerrter E-Gitarre klingen und unterlegt dies mit treibenden
Percussion-Grooves.
Bonastre, who uses classical guitar, electric guitar, voice and percussion
for his sound images, has been influenced by the music of South America.
He is especially associated with musicians such as Egberto Gismonti,
Pat Metheny or Ralph Towner. Like them, he is able to build up a harmonic
environment out of relaxed melancholy and captivating attaccas, topping
them off with melodic phrases. Brilliant harmonics keep peering out
of his pieces and improvisations, followed by wild bass runs and perfectly
articulated themes. He is also familiar with work with the prepared
instrument: In the “Kaolak” cut, Bonastre has his guitar
sound like a mixture of African Kalimba and a distorted electric guitar
with driving underlying grooves.
