Der einzige Weg in die Herzen der Leute führt nur über leidenschaftlich gespielte Musik.“ Das sagt Steve Baker, meisterhafter Blues-Harp-Spieler, und sein Duopartner Chris Jones ergänzt: „Der Blues hat so viele verschiedene Gesichter wie die Musiker, die ihn in all den Jahren gespielt haben. Wir tun unser bestes, dieser Tradition gerecht zu werden.“ Ihre Musik ist eine brodelnde Mixtur aus Folk, Akustik-Blues und Rock´n Roll. Jones und Baker haben längst auch außerhalb des Duos einen hervorragenden Ruf als erstklassige Begleiter, doch zu zweit finden sie zu einer besonders tiefen musikalischen Partnerschaft, bei der sich ihre individuellen Fähigkeiten aufs Vortrefflichste ergänzen. Treffen Chris Jones’ ausdrucksstarke Stimme und sein solides, einfallsreiches Gitarrenspiel – meistens in diversen Open Tunings – auf den mal erdigen, mal luftigen Klang von Bakers Blues-Harp, wird eine ganz neue Kategorie von Energie frei. Leidenschaft und Traditionsbewußtsein ohne Scheu vor geschmackvollen Modernismen sind sicherlich die zentralen Begriffe, ihre Musik zu beschreiben. Einfacher noch bringt es Steve Baker auf den Punkt: „Rock’n Roll without a band!“ Und die beiden brauchen keinerlei Verstärkertürme, um uns in den quirligen Strudel ihrer bluesigen Tunes hineinzuziehen. Apropos Tunes: neben Eigenkompositionen sind auch Traditionals und Stücke von Lowell George, Mark Knopfler und Hank Williams zu hören. Jones & Baker haben als Team eine so starke eigene Handschrift, dass alles wie aus einem Guß klingt. Moderner Acoustic-Blues at it’s best!

The only way to get to the heart of people is to play music with passion.” Those are the words of Steve Baker, a masterful blues harp player; and his duo companion adds: “The blues have as many faces as the musicians that have played them for all those years. We do our best to live up to this tradition.” Their music is a bubbling mixture of folk, acoustic blues and rock’n roll. Jones and Baker have long enjoyed an outstanding reputation as top-notch accompanists even outside their duo configuration. Yet as a duo they do find their way to an especially profound musical partnership, in which they are able to exquisitely complement each other's individual abilities. When Chris Jones’ expressive voice and solid, imaginative guitar playing – usually with various open tunings – meets up with the at times earthy and at times airy sound of Baker's blues harp, it generates an entirely new category of energy. The core terms to describe their music are surely passion and awareness of tradition, without shying away from tasteful modernisms. Baker makes the point in even simpler manner: “Rock’n roll without a band!” And the two musicians do not need towers of amplifiers to sweep us into their whirling maelstrom of bluesy tunes. And speaking of tunes: In addition to their own compositions, they have recorded traditionals and pieces by Lowell George, Mark Knopfler and Hank Williams. As a team, Jones & Baker have such a strong handwriting, that everything seems to be cast in a single mold. It’s modern acoustic blues at it's best!
