BIOGRAPHIE
Steven King, USA National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion, performs
in concert and Taylor Guitar clinics worldwide. Born November 16,
1952, King has played guitar since age 13, and playing alone he sounds
like a trio, with his self-developed solo acoustic fingerstyle technique
featuring his own "bass expansion", a method of playing
simultaneous walking bass lines, melodies, rhythms, and chords combined
with guitar electronics that add an extra signal off the low A and
E strings dropped one octave. His 3000+ repertoire includes originals,
standards, contemporary tunes, jazz, classical and show tunes from
Broadway musicals and classic television themes.
Steven grew up in Los Angeles, and has made the Seattle area his home
since 1993. He studied jazz, arranging and guitar in college in the
70’s, and developed his unique guitar style in the 80’s
which won him the coveted USA National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship
at Winfield, Kansas in 1994.
King has performed solo guitar concerts at venues such as the Chet
Atkins Guitar Festival in Nashville, the Woodstock Opera House, the
Issoudun Guitar Festival in France, the Frankfurt Musikmesse in Germany,
the NAMM show in California, various guitar society concert venues
throughout the USA, and appearances in Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

INFO
Steven King is not only an amazing sorcerer on the guitar but also
a first-class arranger with an extraordinary sense for the sonority
of this instrument. The listener often thinks he is hearing at least
two guitars and a bass on “Acoustic Swing”, yet it is
always “just” Steven King playing solo. At the same time,
the technically brilliant fireworks is never just dazzling or even
meant to be purely an end in itself – the composition, melody
and harmonic idea always stand in the foreground.
PRESS REVIEWS
„…Der vollbärtige Amerikaner haucht Klassikern wie
Gershwins „I Got Rhythm” oder Glenn Millers „Moonlight
Tagblatt, 10. April 1997)
„… With his vivacious performance, the full-bearded American
breathes new life into classics such as Gershwin's 'I Got Rhythm'
or Glen Miller's 'Moonlight Serenade.' And in many passages, it is
hard to believe he is the only guitarero at work." (W. Blum,
Wiesbadener Tagblatt, April 10, 1997)
…" (Ultimo, 2. Juni 1997)
„… At any rate, 'Acoustic Swing'… goes off like
a shot. And the more I listen to it, the more certain I become that
my only problem is the unbelievable perfection that in some parts
seems to be from another world." (Ultimo, June 2, 1997)
