Einer der kreativsten Köpfe der amerikanischen Akustikgitarren-Szene ist Eric Lugosch. Ähnlich wie sein Kollege Duck Baker, der übrigens einer seiner größten Fans ist, verbindet er überaus gekonnt technisches Know-how mit musikalischer Ausdruckskraft. Lugosch ist ein Tüftler, der in seinen Arrangements beständig nach musikalischer Tiefe sucht und dessen Auffassung sich ebenso durch Respekt vor der Tradition wie durch kompromißlose Originalität auszeichnet. Seine Farbpalette ist umfassend und bezieht die ganze Bandbreite der amerikanischen Musik mit ein, sei es Ragtime, Blues, R&B oder Jazz. Markenzeichen des US-Fingerstylisten ist dabei neben dem eleganten, kraftvollen Ton ein gewisser augenzwinkernder Spielwitz, der seine Musik stets charmant daherkommen lässt. Lugosch, der aus Philadelphia stammt, machte seine ersten musikalischen Erlebnisse als Sänger im "Philadelphia Boys Choir" – eine Erfahrung, die bis heute in ihm nachhallt: "Ich begann, die Musik mit einem Ohr für das Orchestrale zu hören. Motive und Linien sind immer noch ein zentraler Bestandteil meiner Art, zu komponieren." Mit zwölf Jahren übte er heimlich auf der Gitarre seines Bruders und vertiefte sich in die Pickings von Rev. Gary Davis und Mississippi John Hurt. "Für mich war es von Anfang an die Sologitarre," sinniert Lugosch. "Ich experimentierte eine Menge, arbeitete Linien aus und war immer auf der Suche nach dem orchestralen Klang des Instruments." Den scheint er gefunden zu haben, konnte er doch 1984 die "National Fingerpicking Championship" gewinnen. Heute lebt Eric Lugosch in Chicago, schreibt, unterrichtet und entwickelt seine persönliche Vision der Fingerstyle-Gitarre abseits aller Klischees weiter.

Eric Lugosch is one of the most creative heads of the American acoustic guitar scene. Like his colleague Duck Baker – who is also one of his greatest fans – he very skillfully combines technical know-how with musical expressiveness. Lugosch is a fellow who tinkers, who consistently seeks musical depth in his arrangements and whose artistic concept is marked by both respect of tradition as well as uncompromising originality. His spectrum of color embraces the entire range of American music, be that ragtime, blues, R&B or jazz. The hallmark of this American fingerstylist consists of an elegant, vigorous tone and a twinkling humor while playing, that inevitably peers charmingly through his music. Lugosch, who hails from Philadelphia, chalked up his first musical experience as a singer in the "Philadelphia Boys Choir," – an experience that continues to echo in him to this day: "I began listening to music with an ear for the orchestral. Motives and lines are still central elements in my way of composing." At the age of twelve he started secretly practicing on his brother's guitar and delved into the pickings of Rev. Gary Davis and Mississippi John Hurt "For me, it was solo guitar right from the start", Lugosch recalls. "I experimented a great deal, worked out lines, and was always on the lookout for the orchestral sound of the instrument." He seems to have found it, even winning the 1984 "National Fingerpicking Championship." Eric Lugosch lives in Chicago, where he writes, teaches and continues developing his own personal vision of fingerstyle guitar beyond all clichés.

Elegant konstruiert der Klangarchitekt Lugosch seine ebenso witzigen wie intelligenten Arrangements, die durch eine perfekte Unabhängigkeit und Verzahnung von Bass-, Melodie- und Begleitstimme verblüffen. Auf "Kind Heroes" ist er bei drei selbstkomponierten Songs erstmals auch als Sänger zu hören. Seine kräftige und sonore Tenorstimme weist ihn als ganzheitlichen Musiker aus, der sich immer schon an der Melodie orientiert hat und für den es ganz natürlich ist, Gitarre und Gesang zu verbinden.
Eric Lugosch‘s big interest is the full range of American music. Ragtime, blues and jazz are the roots of the individual style of this guitarist from Chicago. His use of his instrument is wildly creative, his own compositions and his arrangements blow off any and all finger-picking clichés. The sound-architect Lugosch constructs arrangements which are are as humorous as they are intelligent; arrangements that impress through their autonomy and their joining together of bass, melody and accompanying lines. On "Kind Heroes" he is also, for the first time, the featured singer on three original compositions. His strong, sonorous tenor voice proves him to be a complete musician, who is always adapting himself to the melody and for whom it is quite natural to bring together guitar and voice.
