BIOGRAPHIE

Since the release of his solo CD ‘The Offering’, acoustic finger-style guitarist Lucas Michailidis has received worldwide attention along with glowing reviews throughout his native Australia.

His September-October promotional tour of Europe and the USA consisted of:
· Winning the international 'Open Strings' guitar competition, Osnabrueck, Germany

· Collaborating with American finger-style guitar's leading authority- John Stropes. Stropes has published work by Michailidis as part of the 'Great Compositions by Emerging Artists' series and is associated with the likes of Leo Kotke, Michael Hedges and Alex Degrassi

· Performing as opening act for David Wilcox in the US

Departing from earlier jazz -based work, ‘The Offering’ finds Michailidis in a truly solo acoustic setting, sans vocal accompaniment or overdub. The extensive and unconventional use of guitar tunings, provides the music with a fresh, melodically driven approach that is free of cliché.

Spanning a two and a half-year conception, much of the material’s inspiration has been derived from a six-month stay in LA during 1998. It is here that Michailidis honed his skills in performance and composition, garnering praise from esteemed musician and educator Ted Greene…

Michailidis ist ein erstklassiger Fingerstyle Gitarrist, der weit über die Grenzen seines Heimat-Kontinents Aufmerksamkeit erregt. Der Australier griechischer Abstammung fällt auf durch sein stimmungsvolles und ausdrucksstarkes Spiel. Insbesondere für seine niveauvollen Eigenkompositionen hatte er den 1. Platz beim Gitarrenwettbewerb des Open Strings Festival 2001 verdient. In den USA trat er als Opening-act für David Wilcox auf und arbeitete mit Fingerstyle-Koryphäe John Stropes zusammen, der Michailidis‘ Arbeit als Teil der bekannten „Great Compositions by Emerging Artists“-
Serie veröffentlichte. Hier reiht er sich ein neben solch renommierten Künstlern wie Leo Kottke, Michael Hedges und Alex De Grassi.
Michailidis is a first-class fingerstyle guitarist who has drawn attention from areas well beyond his native continent. This Australian artist of Greek origins is noted for his emotional and expressive play. He won the first prize at the Open Strings festival 2001 especially for the high level of his own compositions. In the USA he performed at the opening act of David Wilcox and worked with the fingerstyle authority John Stropes. The latter released Michailidis‘ work as part of the series “Great Compositions by Emerging Artists”. He appears here alongside famous artists such as Leo Kottke, Michael Hedges and Alex De Grassi.
