BIOGRAPHIE In seiner Heimat Italien ist Franco Morone längst als einer der wichtigsten Vertreter der modernen Fingerstyle-Gitarre etabliert. Dabei ist er nicht nur ein Musiker mit sensibler Klangsprache und solidem Handwerk, sondern hat sich auch als Lehrer und Verfasser von Unterrichtsbüchern zur Fingerstyle-Technik einen Namen gemacht. Was passiert nun, wenn die mediterrane Leichtigkeit des Gitarristen aus Bologna auf die musikalische Verspieltheit irischer Jigs, Reels und Hornpipes trifft? Musik von unaufdringlicher Virtuosität ist das Ergebnis, die wie eine warme und doch immer überraschende Brise um unsere Ohren streicht. So geschehen auf „TheSouth Wind“, seiner zweiten CD für Acoustic Music. Die irischen Traditionals und auch die Stücke des Harfenisten O´Carolan klingen, als hätten sie schon immer auf der Akustikgitarre gespielt werden müssen. „Bei diesem Album habe ich eine ganze Menge neuer Ideen für die Gitarre erschlossen, weil ich den Klang und die Verzierungen traditioneller irischer Instrumente nachempfunden habe. Die Qualität der Musik ist entscheidend, nicht das Instrument!“ Diese Devise ist typisch für die musikalische Philosophie von Franco Morone, dessen eigene Kompositionen – so auf „Melodies Of Memories“ – eine leichte und luftige Atmosphäre verströmen. Sie nehmen uns mit auf einen sanften Flug, getragen vom umfassenden Vorstellungsvermögen des humorvollen Italieners, dessen Musik unsere Phantasie zum Klingen bringt. „Jeder Ton muss klingen wie ein Kieselstein, der ins Wasser fällt.“ Dieser Satz markiert die ewige Suche von Morone nach der Verbindung von Poesie und Perfektion, die dazu geführt hat, daß Passagen von unwiderstehlicher Einfachheit ebenso tiefempfunden sind wie spieltechnische Kunststückchen. |
In his homeland, Italy, Franco Morone has long established himself as one of the most important representatives of fingerstyle guitar playing. He is not only a musician with a sensitive tonal vocabulary and a solid knowledge of the craft, but has also made himself a name as a teacher and author of educational books on fingerstyle technique. So what happens when the Mediterranean lightheartedness of this guitarist from Bologna encounters the musical whimsicality of Irish jigs, reels and hornpipes? The result is music of circumspect virtuosity, music that wafts about our ears like a warm yet always surprising breeze. That's what happens on “The South Wind", his second CD for Acoustic Music. The traditional Irish music and the pieces by the harpist O'Carolan sound as if they should always have been played on the acoustic guitar. "On this album, I tapped a great deal of new ideas for the guitar, because I recreated the sound and ornamentation of traditional Irish instruments. It's the quality of the music that is crucial, not the instrument!” This motto is typical of the musical philosophy of Franco Morone, whose own compositions – for example on “Melodies Of Memories” – exude a light and airy mood. They take us up on a gentle flight, carried by the broad imagination of this humorous Italian musician, whose music can really make our fantasy resound. “Every note must sound like a pebble falling into the water.” This phrase denotes Morone's eternal quest for the connection between poetry and perfection, and the outcome is sections of irresistible simplicity that are both deeply felt and technical works of art. |
