BIOGRAPHIE Isato Nakagawa ist Japaner. Seine Musik ist aber keineswegs in erster Linie fernöstlich geprägt, sondern folgt dem Pfad der Fingerpicking-Gitarre in all ihren Ausprägungen. Was am ehesten seiner Abstammung entsprechen dürfte ist die Klarheit und Reinheit seiner Klangräume. Wie ein beseelter Architekt baut Isato Nakagawa musikalische Landschaften und Räume aus ganz einfachen Strukturen, deren Anordnung jedoch von solcher Raffinesse ist, daß man unversehens hineingezogen wird und von der Wohligkeit und Wärme überrascht wird. Fast ist man geneigt, diese Musik schlicht zu nennen, übersieht dabei aber die sich auf höchstem Niveau bewegende Artikulation und die perfekte Balance zwischen wohlklingender Schönheit und überraschendem Kontrast. Majestätische Akkordschichtungen münden in perlende Flageoletts, strahlende Arpeggien werden von swingenden Basslinien abgelöst. Wunderbar gelassene Melodien wehen uns folkloristisch um die Ohren, während abgedämpfte Bass- Figuren für die nötige rhythmische Dichte sorgen. In Nakagawas Musik ist eine Leichtigkeit auszumachen, die einen an die Schwerelosigkeit denken läßt, und doch ist in jedem Moment voller Bodenkontakt gegeben. Dafür sorgt die Tiefe der Kompositionen und ihre makellose Ausführung. Zusammen mit dem Gitarristen entdecken wir den Wert jeder einzelnen Note immer wieder neu und lauschen der Magie seiner Musik nach. |
Isato Nakagawa is Japanese. His music, however, is by no means Far Eastern, but rather follows the path of fingerpicking guitar in all its variations. The clarity and purity of his musical spaces is what might best reflect his origins. Like some inspired architect, Nakagawa constructs musical landscapes and spaces using very simple structures, whose organization is done so cleverly, that one is accidentally drawn into them and then astounded by the comfort and warmth there. One could be tempted to call the music simple, but this would mean overlooking the articulation, which is performed at the highest level, and the perfect balance between agreeably sounding beauty and surprising contrasts. Majestic layering of chords opens into pearly flageolets, radiant arpeggios are replaced by swinging bass lines. Wonderfully serene melodies waft like folk music about our ears while dampened bass figures create the necessary rhythmic density. Nakagawa's music contains a lightness that makes us think of weightlessness, and yet contact with the ground is there at all times. That is due to the depth of the compositions and their impeccable performance. We and the guitarist discover the value of each single note over and over again and we listen to the magic of his music. |
