Ralf Siedhoff (klassische und 12-saitige Gitarre) studierte in Weimar, gründete 1990 seine eigene Gruppe und arbeitete unter anderem mit Eberhard Weber, Trilok Gurtu und Markus Stockhausen zusammen. Siedhoffs Vermögen, verschiedene Stile und rhythmische Welten miteinander zu verbinden, ist das Resultat seiner Studien mit Rama Mani, einem Meister der indischen klassischen Musik. Nach zwei inspirierenden CDs mit „The Guitar Duo“ beschreitet der Gitarrist mit „World Beat“ neue Wege, bei denen sich exotische Klänge mit modernen europäischen Sounds, groovigen Rhythmen und seinem charakteristischem lyrisch-expressiven Gitarrenspiel mischen. Siedhoff bewegt sich im Grenzbereich verschiedener Musikkulturen mit erstaunlicher Leichtigkeit und Authentizität und ist stets auf der Suche nach den verbindenden Elementen zwischen den Kulturen der Welt. Seine spannenden akustischen Experimente bringen so unterschiedliche Stilistiken wie Flamenco, Jazz, klassische indische Musik und die Beats junger „Remixer“ zusammen. Die Zusammen-arbeit mit orientalischen Musikern sorgt für den selbstverständlichen Umgang mit exotischen Skalen und unsymmetrischen Rhythmen. Ralf Siedhoff schöpft aus den unterschiedlichsten Quellen und weiss durch seinen schöpferischen Umgang mit verschiedenen Musikkulturen zu begeistern.

Ralf Siedhoff (classical and 12-string guitar) studied in Weimar. In 1990, he launched his own group and worked together with Eberhard Weber, Trilok Gurtu and Markus Stockhausen. Siedhoff’s skill in connecting various styles and rhythmic worlds is the product of his studies with Rama Mani, a master of classical Indian music. After two inspiring CDs with “The Guitar Duo”, the guitarist has now steered a new course with “World Beat”, in which exotic sonorities blend with modern European sounds, grooving rhythms and his characteristically lyrical, expressive guitar technique. Siedhoff moves in the borderline area of various musical cultures with surprising lightness and authenticity. And he is always on the quest for the elements that link the cultures of the world. His exciting acoustic experiments converge such varying styles as flamenco, jazz, Indian classical music and the beats of the young generation of “remixers”. His collaboration with oriental musicians has given him a natural feel for exotic scales and non-symmetrical rhythms. Ralf Siedhoff draws upon the most diverse sources and has the knack of captivating the listener with his creative approach to various musical cultures.

Für sein erstes Solo-Album „Worldbeat“ hat Ralf Siedhoff neun Musiker unterschiedlicher Nationen eingeladen. Entstanden sind zwölf Stücke, in denen sich exotische Klänge mit modernen europäischen Sounds, groovigen Rhythmen und Siedhoffs charakteristischem lyrisch-expressiven Gitarrenspiel mischen. Ralf Siedhoff hat den Musikern Raum für ihre ganz eigenen Interpretationen und Ausmalungen gelassen. Er nimmt sich zurück und lässt Ungewohntes zu. Seine Gitarrensoli ziehen sich wie ein roter Faden durch das Album, ordnen scheinbar Chaotisches und Unsymmetrisches und fügen es neu zusammen. Unverkennbar die Einflüsse durch die Sounds von Björk, Massiv Attack und Lamp. „Worldbeat“ widerspiegelt das Lebensgefühl der modernen westeuropäischen Welt. Indem man sich schöpferisch auf fremde Kulturen einlässt, verschwimmen Grenzen und Fremdes fügt sich zu Bekannten und Vertrauten neu zusammen.
For his terrific album “Worldbeat” Ralf Siedhoff invited nine musicians from different nations. The result was 12 pieces in which exotic sounds mix with modern European ones, grooving rhythms combine with Siedhoff’s characteristically lyrical, expressive guitar playing. Ralf Siedhoff left his musicians space for their very own interpretations and excursions. He takes a step back from the limelight and allows for the unusual to bloom. His guitar solos run through the album as a leitmotiv, putting order in what appears to be chaotic and asymmetrical. “Worldbeat” is one more step ahead in the quest for linking elements between the world’s cultures. The influence from Björk, Massive Attack or Lamp cannot be overheard. “Worldbeat” reflects the feeling for life of the western European world. By creatively accepting other cultures, the borders become transparent, and what appears foreign blends with the known, the familiar in a new and fascinating manner.
