BIOGRAPHIE „Ich bin total zufrieden, mit der Gitarre zu leben,“ bekennt Jacques Stotzem. Der sympathische Belgier steht in der Gunst der Akustikgitarrenfans auf der ganzen Welt weit oben. Befragt nach ihren musikalischen Vorlieben, nannten ihn die Leser des deutschen Fachmagazins „Akustik Gitarre“ in einem Atemzug mit Kollegen wie Leo Kottke, Paco de Lucia, Neil Young oder Keb’ Mo’. Das ist auch nicht weiter verwunderlich. Stotzem vereint eine ausgereifte und hoch individuelle Spieltechnik mit einem feinen Empfinden für die richtige Melodie. Seine Virtuosität als Fingerstyle-Gitarrist steht immer im Dienst der Musik, sein sensibles Gespür für Pausen und Dynamik läßt seine Stücke atmen und direkt zum Hörer sprechen. Auf ihre Kosten kommen diejenigen Freunde akustischer Gitarrenmusik, die Abwechslung und gleichzeitig Individualität lieben: der Zärtlichkeit einer Ballade folgt die erdige Kraft des Blues, dem leisen Lächeln eines verschmitzten Rags folgt die farbenprächtige Leidenschaft jazziger Harmonien. Das alles wird zusammengehalten durch Stotzems perfekte Beherrschung des Instruments und seine optimistische Persönlichkeit. Jacques Stotzem begann im Alter von 16 Jahren mit dem Gitarrespielen. Ein Fernsehauftritt des amerikanischen Bluesgitarristen Stefan Grossman ist der Auslöser, zwei Tage später besitzt Jacques seine erste akustische Gitarre und ein Lehrbuch des Amerikaners. Jacques Stotzem hat mittlerweile etliche erfolgreiche CDs eingespielt und ist regelmäßiger Gast auf Festivals in Europa und den USA. Erst vor kurzem veröffentlichte er seine neue CD „Sur Vesdre“, die von seinen Fans wie von der Fachkritik begeistert aufgenommen wurde. Die Musik des belgischen Gitarristen ist so unverwechselbar wie sein Fingerabdruck. Saitenkollege Larry Coryell über Jacques: „Was er spielt, ist pure Musik. Als Instrument benutzt er die Gitarre, die er sehr, sehr gut beherrscht.“ |
“I'm perfectly satisfied living with the guitar,” Jacques Stotzem admits. This friendly Belgian is high up on the list for fans of the acoustic guitar the world round. When asked about their musical preferences, the readers of the German fan magazine “Akustik Guitarre” listed him in the same breath as colleagues the likes of Leo Kottke, Paco de Lucia, Neil Young or Keb' Mo'. That's not really astonishing. Stotzem combines polished and highly individual playing technique with a delicate sense for the right melody. His virtuosity as a finger-style guitarist is always placed at the service of music, his fine-tuned sense for pauses and dynamics enable his pieces to breathe and speak directly to the listener. Aficionados of acoustic guitar music on the lookout for variation and individualism at the same time will be well served: the gentleness of a ballad is followed by the earthy quality of a blues, and the quiet smile of an impish rag is followed by the colorful passion of jazzy harmonies. All of this is cemented together by Stotzem's perfect command of the instrument and by his optimistic personality. Jacques Stotzem began playing guitar at the age of 16. The inspiration was a television appearance by the American blues guitarist Stefan Grossman; two days later Jacques was in possession of his first guitar and of a teaching book by Grossman. Since then, Jacques Stotzem has recorded several successfully albums and has become a regular guest at European and American festivals. Quite recently he released his new CD “Sur Vesdre” which was accepted by his fans as well as press reviews with enthusiasm. Indeed the music of this Belgian guitarist is as unmistakable as a fingerprint. His guitar-playing colleague Larry Coryell described Jacques as follows: “What he plays is pure music. As an instrument he uses the guitar, which he knows very, very well.” |
