This guitar! You can hear Eric Lugosch's very own sound among dozens of fingerstyle masters.
Migration”, like every new solo album by the reserved American, is an event that almost imperceptibly transports the listener into a state between quiet enjoyment of timeless beauty, blissful oblivion of time and incredulous amazement at so much depth with perfect ease:
nimble melodies of catchy tune quality - every note slender, captivatingly precise. Harmonies dabbed on casually to somnambulistically. Delicate, effortless and irresistible groove permeates every line.
As a lovingly detailed keeper of old American folk music, Lugosch confidently combines it with more modern harmonies, spirituals, ragtime, blues, jazz and the Great American Songbook on “Migration”. Initially trained as a guitarist by fingerstyle old master Reverend Gary Davis, Lugosch plays three voices simultaneously on six strings, allowing it all to retain its originality and, as a gifted arranger and composer, always finds exactly the right tone for his portable orchestra on the fingerboard that musical logic demands.
Whether lively (“Watch Pot”), delicately Spanish (“Sombra”), a modern jazz waltz (“H.S.A.”) or a dreamy view of a horse pasture (“Appaloosa”) - on “Migration”, nothing but Lugosch's guitar enchants the listener, strikingly relaxed and perfectly capturing the very last note.
