When it comes to the organic symbiosis of classical music and improvisation, then one must admit that the Italian guitarist Edoardo Bignozzi has an especially consummate hand. The cuts on “Nocturnal” are all by the performer himself (revealing him as a talented composer as well), or by one of his great inspirations: Ralph Towner. Bignozzi is the kind of guitarist who doesn’t mainly rely on technique, but rather on intense moods and musical depth. His articulation perfectly brings out the atmosphere and sonorous hues of each piece.
