Chris Jones & Steve Baker - Slow Roll

It's not often that two such talented musicians come together and discover that they were made for each other. Harmonica guru Steve Baker and guitar virtuoso/singer Chris Jones are masters of their instruments on a very high level, but the driving force behind their music is an intensity which goes far beyond mere technical expertise. Together Chris Jones and Steve Baker generate a compelling energy which is much more than just the sum of its parts, and in doing so they stretch the boundaries of their music into new realms. Most of the tunes on "Slow Roll" are rooted in the blues, but their remarkable freshness and originality is a tribute to the power and passion with which Chris and Steve imbue their material. They play every song as if it were their last. Stylistically the music on this album covers a wide range, but Jones and Baker succeed in giving every number an unmistakeable quality of their own which ensures continuity. Seven of the titles are self-penned, and the remainder are culled from sources as diverse as Leadbelly, Z.Z.Top, Bonnie Raitt or J.J.Cale. They all bear an indelible stamp of authority.
