The Volker Schlott Quartet has now been in existence for the past 10 years - reason enough for an anniversary CD. There have been some minor changes in the membership during this time, and it has also stylistically developed beyond a pure jazz quartet. However, the foundation for the music of the Volker Schlott Quartet remains the compositions of the group's founder. The music on the current CD was created at the beginning of 1995 and contains reflections on concert trips of recent years and the impressions they left behind. Yet, the wide range of styles has been pursued for a long time with the intention of bringing ideas as independent and unconventional as possible into areas that are supposedly familiar. At the same time, the music's stylistic direction is less important than the feelings it stimulates, the moods it radiates, and the idea that it is communicative in every respect.
The beginning of the CD with the "Farewell Song" therefore leaves a number of interpretations open - however, at the least the listener should say farewell to everyday life for just under an hour.
