Musical plants like "Badiane" are a rarity: with a bewitching fragrance and a fascinating appearance - and yet the form isn't so symmetrical that we don't immediately turn to look at it at the edge of the road. Badiane's second album Song of the Blue Tree also invites the listener to stay for a while in this astonished, even breathless atmosphere. As already achieved on Flavours - the debut album - the Belgian quartet has once again succeeded in this small wonder of uniting completely different styles ranging from folk and ethno to minimal in a homogeneous concept. The kaleidoscope of tonal colours by this unusual formation is also tremendously exciting: with violin, contrabass, mandoline, banjo (!), percussion and vibraphone, Badiane lets an acoustic cosmos sound that is unrivalled in its sensual opulence. And, as is appropriate for musical wanderers of this coloration, although Song of the Blue Tree picks up the thread from the premiere CD it continually seeks new, surprising paths for itself through the sounding terrain.
