Andrea Benzoni - Timing

Andrea Benzoni plays his steel and nylon string guitars with considerable authority. Beatle songs, classic latino (“Oye Como Va”), bossa-novas (“How Insensitive” by A.C. Jobim), jazz standards (“Topsy” or „Blue Moon”): the repertoire which he has chosen for this CD reveals the breadth of his entire spectrum and opens up a space for him in which he can realize all of his ideas. And his ideas are truly remarkable. In his hands the cuts take on a whole new life. For example the solo-guitar version of “Oye Como Va” springs to life, and is a real delight for the ear. Benzoni is able to work both his overflowing temperament and the thoughtfulness and depth of the more gentle moments into his music. The total of six own compositions on “Timing” prove that he not only has something to say for himself as an inspired performer but also as a composer.
