Gert de Meijer’s album "Behind The Dunes" acts as a worthy successor to the recordings of Leo Kottke, John Fahey and Michael Hedges, while at the same time boasting an individual voice. Gert de Meijer was a fingerstyle guitarist who tapped from an enormous repertoire of creative techniques, experimented with various tunings and conjured highly individual sounds from his 6- and 12-string guitars. Gentle compositions with impressionist hues stand cheek-by-jowl with vivacious power-pickings, bluesy slides and clearly intoned melodic curves. The compositions for 12-string guitar are especially impressive, and they truly explore the possibilities of this difficult instrument.
