The musicians behind the Piano Meets Vibes are the pianist Jens Schliecker and the mallet player Nils Rohwer, vibraphone and marimba. They already chalked up two recordings with Acoustic Music ("Piano Meets Vibes," 1994 and "Duo Fantasie," 1996), that were received with enthusiasm by the critics and the public. When together, they show especially good form. They don’t have to obey any conventions or fit into and drawers, instead they can totally live out their multifaceted musical visions without any inhibitions. Their new CD, “Bilder einer Reise” (Images Of A Journey) describes the impressions, energies and inspirations that these musicians have experienced during their journey. Piano Meets Vibes is a vivacious cosmos of sounds that resist any categorization that might be too superficial. This music represents an acoustic tableau with an impressionistic touch, colorful, alive, playful, meditative. The two musicians take time to spread out broad and flowing themes, to revel in dense harmonic layering, to build up taut rhythmic structures.
