"Without mincing words: Axel Zinowsky belongs in the Great Book of the German jazz guitar." That was the verdict passed by Alexander Schmitz, author of "Das Gitarrenbuch" (The Guitar Book) and "Jazzgitarristen" (Jazz Guitarists) on the string picker from Münster, who is adept at naturally combining influences from the classical and pop music fields. Zinowsky is an unusually "rounded off" guitarist, who is just as convincing on the E-guitar as when using nylon strings. He can really turn up the heat ("Ballad For Jimi", "Seven Steps To Heaven"), but also bathe in sheer poetry. This cosmopolite of the guitar is not only a remarkable instrumentalist, but also an exciting composer and arranger. Axel Zinowsky studied classical and pop music and now works as a professor of guitar at various music schools. Besides his quartet, he also works with Wayne Bartlett, Billy Cobham and Florian Poser and concertizes as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles.
