For his CD “Caldera” Dierkes adopted a trio formation consisting of guitar, bass and percussion. This guitarist, who is firmly rooted in the Berlin jazz scene, is just as brilliant in this difficult discipline. His acoustic sound works its way to great heights over the variable foundation of his rhythm group. The recording makes it perfectly clear that Dierkes has full command of linear play and performs with taste and an impressive sense of imagination. Moreover, the fact that Manfred Dierkes has not limited himself to the often-played standard repertoire does him great credit. It gives him the chance to prove himself as a composer with a wealth of flexible ideas.
Manfred Dierkes has been active in the Berlin jazz scene since 1987. He has made a name for himself above all as an accompanist of female vocalists and as a solo artist. His specialty is the working out of all possibilities offered by the fingerstyle jazz concept.
