A moment to pause. A deep breath. A look back with joy, satisfaction and pride on what has been achieved. This is what Michael Fix does with his current retrospective “Rewind”, which follows seven studio albums. Inspired by Chet Atkins, this Australian artist became a fingerstyle guitarist all on his own, an artist equally esteemed as an author of film music, a soloist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and a workshop teacher.
With his mature technique, his cultured tone and his vigorous groove, he reveals a broad stylistic scope in his instrumentals, ragtime, ballads and hints of jazz, world music, classical and musical. “The best pieces arise as an immediate response to a felt experience,” says Michael Fix. As a listener, one is tempted to answer: The best songs are those that make us want to pause for a moment and wish we could “Rewind” time.
