With his first album, "The Fall Of Birds" (2003), the young Russian musician set a highly visible beacon in classical guitar music. Ever since then, Evgeni Finkelstein has become well-known to all fans of the classical guitar: He is the product of supreme schooling by his teachers Nikita Koshkin and Alexander Frauchi and is now professor at the Moscow Music Academy. He has also won several international competitions. Profound musicality, passionate devotion and polished expressive powers are the three attributes that Finkelstein places entirely in the service of the music on "Lachrimae". The album spotlights works by the Roman Baroque composer Giovanni Zamboni, the French court musician Robert de Visée, the English lute virtuoso John Dowland, as well as the contemporary Italian composer Carlo Domeniconi. With "Lachrimae", Evgeni Finkelstein gives an impressive accounting of his ability to perform an all-encompassing repertoire while maintaining a mature tone and great expressive power.
