Crossing over - this motto as the title of a CD causes not only seasoned experts to immediately think of crossing musical borders, building bridges - or, expressed in a more audacious manner: a tasty acoustic hodgepodge. Quite rightly - on his album with this same name, the Austrian acoustic guitarist serves a "Viennese melange" of different styles like jazz, blues, rock and folk - just to mention a few - that is just as remarkable as it is refreshing and easy to swallow. What holds together such a skillfully mixed potpourri "on the very inside" is naturally Langer's high degree of musicality on the one hand, his signature that moves through all fourteen songs despite the "colorful diversity" in terms of the compositions. On the other hand, however, Michael Langer's technique of attack, originating from the classical guitar, in connection with the delicate, soft sound of the nylon strings provides a high level of unmistakability. Langer's congenial partner on percussion should naturally also be mentioned: Stephan Maass. Crossing Over is guitar music par excellence that shows how exciting making music without borders can be!
