For five long years, silence surrounded the nice blues guitarist, who has long been considered one of the absolute luminaries of the genre in his country-of-choice, Germany. Tom Shaka, born in Middletown, Connecticut, set off as a teenager to find his personal blues style, inspired by such big names as Charley Patton, Robert Johnson and John Lee Hooker: soulful, stark, straightforward. “If you are not telling the truth through the blues,” says Shaka, “where then?”
He shares this treasure trove of experience with us now on the CD “Deep Cut", and convinces with his traditional blues and airy rags, which this passionate shouter and elegant fingerstylist presents in various musical colors using an acoustic guitar, a resonator guitar and a blues harp. And thus he once more confirms his reputation as a solo blues master who says what he thinks according to the “telling it straight” principle. Over 30 years ago, Tom Shaka set out. He has now arrived with “Deep Cut”.
