It was early on that Peter Finger moved away from traditional folk-blues-alternate-bass picking. Incorporating ideas from progressive rock and 20th-century classical music into his fingerstyle playing, the Osnabrück native soon found his own musical identity: an incredible technique in his playing skills, combined with an unlimited curiosity for composition, as well as an endless versatility of both style and expression. Peter Finger´s highly melodic playing on steel strings ranges from deeply lyrical passages to dazzling high-speed flights and all shades in between, letting the likes of Stravinsky, Satie, and Bach shine through without ever betraying the spirit of fingerpicking guitar.
His latest album “Flow” boasts an intoxicating journey of unbelievably sparkling imagination, drawing from Afro-Caribbean sounds, baroque, jazz, samba, and moving ballads, organizing everything masterfully in clearcut structures. And everything is wonderfully inspired by the innocent drive of folk music, and the spicy groove and vibrato of the blues.
