With their debut album already, “Danza, Non Danza,” the two nylon string virtuosos Reentko Dirks and Daniel Nikolas Wirtz received outstanding reviews. It's no accident that these two, who met during a course of studies in Dresden, were honored with the European Guitar Award in 2006.
With their unbridled style of play, characterized by a wide dynamic range and percussive elements, these two virtuosos weave together tango nuevo, jazz and flamenco. With “Kinski, Spencer, Gismonti,” they have once again managed to extend their world-musical range, this time with calypso, film music, folk songs and some of their own concertante compositions – and that with a tongue-in-cheek bridging of the gap between so-called serious and entertaining music: Their album is dedicated to Klaus Kinski, Bud Spencer and Egberto Gismonti.
And listening to “Kinski, Spencer, Gismonti,” one can only applaud in agreement, when established masters of the guitar like Ralph Towner state that Dirks and Wirtz are “an exciting force, filled with performing joy. A wonderful duo!”
