For fans of bluegrass and friends of American roots music, Behind The Strings by Thierry Massoubre is pure joy for the ears.
It contains fifteen instrumentals with music of the legendary Bill Monroe, one composition by the French guitar master Michel Haumont, but most by Thierry Massoubre himself. This French flatpicking guitarist already demonstrated his virtuosity with his debut album, A Walk With You, which he cut together with mandolin-player Jefferson Louvat. This time round, he has the support of a roster of fourteen top-notch musicians, who appear in various formations on Behind The Strings. But regardless of who is playing the banjo, the mandolin, the fiddle or the bass, each cut is performed with great skill and above all lightness that is a true delight for the listener.
