Manfred Dierkes is the archtop fingerstylist who has generated pure amazement in the jazz scene. "It´s About Time" brings top quality fingerstyle jazz to the fore. The “orchestral” technique of Manfred Dierkes connects hearty, swinging walking basses with thick chords, classical tremolos and enchantingly beautiful improvisations. Above and beyond the polished technique, his music is of the greatest artistry and represents a homage to the classics of jazz from the past fifty years and to the instrument itself, the “archtop jazz guitar”. The six own compositions that fit seamlessly into the series of standards on "It´s About Time" prove that Manfred Dierkes is not only a gifted interpreter, but a talented composer as well. Indeed, it’s high time that this guitarist should come to be known in wider circles. Dierkes could become the one to perfection the preliminary work of his colleagues in the soloist fingerstyle jazz realm and carry it to new heights.

With his “See You Soon”, jazz guitarist Frank Haunschild has released an album on his own. He has created a guitaristic kaleidoscope, a wonderful sonorous landscape featuring impressions from jazz, folk, pop, blues and bossa nova. The own compositions reflect Haunschild’s astonishing expressive spectrum. He is a remarkable guitarist in terms of melody and harmony, who produces impressive song portraits filled with emotional quality. The spectrum ranges from complex atmospheric collages, to purist solo recordings on nylon strings or baritone guitar. Frank Haunschild is a jazz guitarist who is anchored in both the traditional and the modern and has also made a very pleasant name for himself as a competent author and creator of workshops. “See You Soon” reveals him as one of the most able modern jazz and acoustic guitarists.

What do you think Sonny Rollins, George Harrison, Ravel, Dizzy Gillespie, Joaquin Rodrigo, Gershwin and Mancini have in common? The answer is really simple: the guitarist Larry Coryell. And his debut album with Acoustic Music Records. It's been 30 years now since this native Texan set off the jazz-rock revolution playing with the quartet of vibraphonist Gary Burton, together with bass player Steve Swallow and drummer Bobby Moses, and then proceeded to establish it as the unparalleled "fusion" school with his own group Eleventh House. With his sure-footed instinct Coryell, now 55 years old, has since headed down new roads, be that in the guitar trio with John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia, in the duo with Philip Catherine, or even solo, pioneer and master of the acoustic steel-string guitar. And since the mid-1980s, in guileless American style, but nonetheless with great respect for his material, he has sought access to European art music and has successfully crossed classical music with jazz, acoustically and without any compromises.

“The acoustic guitar is what I like most. I love its natural dynamics and the need to produce sounds from the instrument all by oneself." After recording the ensemble production “Here And Now” (AMR 1998), Sagmeister’s first bow to the acoustic guitar, this master guitarist had come up with “Repose”, his first acoustic solo CD. Nine original compositions and three standards form the basis upon which the musicality of this guitarist can fan out without any obstacles. Never before was it possible to enjoy his performance, his musical and emotional world, with such immediacy. For guitarists, this CD is an epiphany – and for all lovers of music it represents an opportunity to experience the playing of one of the leading guitarists in our time in its purest form.

You take an outstanding fingerstyle guitarist, give him 18 swinging jazz classics from Birdland to Four Brothers and then lock him up in a studio for a while. The recipe for a truly exquisite, gourmet CD can be this simple, which is no wonder since Steven King is not only an amazing sorcerer on the guitar but also a first-class arranger with an extraordinary sense for the sonority of this instrument. The listener often thinks he is hearing at least two guitars and a bass on Acoustic Swing, yet it is always "just" Steven King playing solo. At the same time, the technically brilliant fireworks is never just dazzling or even meant to be purely an end in itself - the composition, melody and harmonic idea always stand in the foreground. Although Acoustic Swing lives from breathless astonishment about the "unheard-of" versatility of the acoustic guitar, even more amazing is the fresh and pristine effect of the 18 classics as King interprets them.

With “Lasting Love“, Acoustic Music Records has convinced this remarkable guitarist to present his first solo performance in the studio. The result is eleven timeless, beautiful compositions in which Zoller proves his tremendous musicality in a way perhaps more impressive than ever before. Although Zoller has actually always been a guitarist whose way of playing put the music in the foreground instead of vainly displaying technique, on Lasting Love he appears to have dedicated himself even more intensively to absolute melodiousness - with a level of determination that should set standards.

"Jamie Findlay is an important milestone in the development of guitar-playing," - was Ralph Towner's enthusiastic opinion of the guitarist from Los Angeles several years ago. Jamie Findlay has long been considered one of the most significant representatives of acoustic jazz guitar on the West Coast of the USA. Jamie Findlay mainly plays his original compositions on "Amigos del Corazón", convincing the listener not only with light grooves and virtuosity, but also with his improvisational and compositional class. Press review "This jazzy CD has unbeatably powerful moments. Gently played, highly diverse melodies over complex harmonies are well suited to captivate you and make you forget your daily cares..." On “Wings Of Light” Findlay above all amazes through his enormous manysidedness : no matter whether lyric compositions, which remind of Ralph Towner, or rather fusion -jazz orientated pieces; no matter whether on the 12String guitar, the classical or the electric guitar, whether solo or with his band, over and over Jamie Findlay surprises through his original, very independent play.

Olaf Tarenskeen is a revelation for the acoustic-guitar scene. This may sound quite self-confident but it's true nonetheless. Tarenskeen, who is still largely unknown in Germany, has succeeded in the admirable feat of picking up the tradition of the so-called "classical guitar" and leading it, even advancing it, in the direction of the next millennium. How does that go? On the one hand, Tarenskeen can rely on his profound classical training. This applies to his excellent technique, as well as his formal understanding of music. On the other hand, the Dutchman is a fantastic musical essayist. His compositions have wit, charm and depth. They are modern without being modernistic; they challenge the listener without asking too much; they imprint themselves deeply in the ears and don't just live from the present moment. If you have recently asked yourself what direction the acoustic guitar will probably take in the future, you will certainly find the right answer in Olaf Tarenskeen - and with this album once again top audiophile quality from the Acoustic Music Studio. Press review "This meeting of learned technique and the ability to fantasize and give shape produces dense, virtuosic rhythmically and melodically exciting compositions, one could even say essays." (Folker)

Olaf Tarenskeen is a guitarist who succeeds in combining the best of two worlds. On the one hand he is rooted in the tradition of the “classical guitar”, from which he borrows aspects of technique and the tonal form. On the other hand, he is solidly into modern jazz and is as naturally at home with freely improvised material as he is in classic “mainstream swinging”. By the same token, he is everything but a typical jazz guitarist tapping into the repertoire of the much-played standards. Only a single piece from this genre, "Alice In Wonderland", can be heard on "Human Download", albeit in a highly creative solo arrangement. Tarenskeen is a magician of the acoustic guitar, who conjures compositions from his nylon- and steelstring guitar that have musical depth but are by no means tiresome. The sound, the groove, the especially developed sense for delicate contrasts all join to make this album a special delight for the ear. Olaf Tarenskeen is an unusually talented musician, who is perfectly capable of guiding jazzy performances on the acoustic guitar to new heights without falling prey to clichés. Press review "Olaf Tarenskeen is a guitarist who succeeds in combining the best of two worlds. On the one hand he is imbued with the tradition of the classical guitar, borrowing aspects of technique and intonation. On the other hand he is solidly implanted in modern jazz and has just as elegant a command of free improvisation as he does of classic ‘mainstream swingers’." (Vintage Guitar News)
