Peter Autschbach is one of the most agile German guitarists of his generation. One focus of his many musical activities has always been jazz. His acquaintance with Joe Pass formed one of the most important experiences of his career: “You don’t need lessons,” was Joe Pass’s unequivocal comment. With “Pass It On”, Peter Autschbach recalls one of the great guitarists of mainstream jazz. Musical language and sound maintain the tradition, but Autschbach plays identifiably with his own phrasing. The fact that “Pass It On” was recorded in a single day would have really suited Joe. “Pass It On” is a major contribution to the field of straight-ahead jazz and adds one more fine piece to the colorful puzzle of Peter Autschbach’s musical activities.
