The winner of the “Open Strings 2002” guitar contest was David Sick. Playing a nylon string guitar, this remarkable musician has developed a highly individual musical language and discovered a groove entirely of his own making. The listener is enchanted by dancing rhythms, pearling cascades of notes and bouncing melodies. In addition to effervescent playing, Sick also has the knack for the contemplative arrangement of ballads, as demonstrated by his own songs “Ballad” and “Piece For Cello”. Thomas Fellow, the guitarist from “Friend ‘n Fellow” and teacher of the Guitar/World Music master class in Dresden is thrilled: “David’s music immediately cast me under its spell and made me forget all the other sounds around me.”
