When the two LPs ”Windspiele” and ”Im Labyrinth,” were released in the early 1980s, public and critics were unanimous, the Finger/Poser duo had achieved perfect symbiosis between guitar and vibraphone or marimbaphone. The unbelievable virtuosity and superb musicality of these two instrumentalists created enchantingly beautiful worlds of sound, in finespun compositions filled with rhythmic tricks and hinted connections to everything from classical music to rock. Today, over 15 years later, the Finger/Poser duo still exists, but their two starter albums had already long become rarities unavailable on the open market.

By happy coincidence, Peter Finger recently came in possession of the two master tapes and spontaneously decided to make a ”Best of” compilation of the two LPs on a single CD. The result, as anyone can hear off the bat, sounds so modern even today, that even in 1997 the word ”trend-setting can be applied without further ado.

There is hardly a musician who has so much found his very own, unmistakable style, charasterized above all by the seamless integration of the traditional and the modern spirit, like Peter Finger during his long career. On "Between the Lines", Finger has succeeded in the feat of keeping the listener spellbound from the first to the last minute with nine timelessly beautiful and sophisticated compositions. No matter whether it is the rock-oriented opener "Getaway," the inspiration of French Impressionism reflected in "Friends Forever" or "Abstract Canon No. 1," Peter Finger's wide musical background is invariably audible and perceptible behind each title.

And - does it still have to be mentioned? Peter Finger is unquestionably one of the best modern acoustic guitarists, in more than just the technical respect. (...)
