Francisco Tarrega, Heitor Villa-Lobos, M. Ponce, I. Albeniz - all these names cross the listener's associative mind while enjoying Alain Everts' initial work with Acoustic Music Records. The music is associative because Everts presents twelve remarkable original compositions for the acoustic guitar that never deny their inspiration from the greats of guitar literature. Yet, their ideas are transported totally in their own right to the end of the 20th century. Everts truly succeeds at something that has often been put forward as a makeshift platitude: he connects the traditional with the modern, showing how "classical guitar music" can sound in 1997 without losing itself in artificial, experimental mannerisms. Everts' music makes for pure enjoyment, but at the same time it doesn't renounce compositional depth and technical sophistication. Which in itself already says that in Alain Everts a very excellent guitarist can be discovered whose subtle, many-facetted way of playing should also attract a large circle of fans in this country. "…Skillful, committed, differentiated, surprising, an unbelievably professional performance!" (H. Lüttmann, Emsdettener Tageblatt, 26.3.1997) "In his music, a mix of classical, South American, flamenco and jazz hues, and improvisation, he achieves the almost gentle vivacity of the professional, "Tierra Nueva" becomes a very sensual experience...." (Folksblatt, 2/97)
