Obrigado - thank-you! The title of this unusual production has various meanings: on the one hand, it can be understood as the motto of what could very well be called an homage to the last 20 to 30 years of jazz history. However, on the other hand it could also mean the undoubtedly spontaneous acclamation by the listener after the last of the twelve titles fades away. The trailblazing duo work of Klaus Ignatzek (p) and Martin Wind (cb) can actually be summed up in one word: fantastic! Not only have two instruments found each other but, above all, here are two musicians who have long been successful as soloists, whose actual destiny appears to be precisely this duo formation. This makes the mixture of six original compositions and six "classics" from Berlin to Corea sound so tremendously exciting, swinging and new that it takes the listener's breath away time after time - and then, after more than 71 minutes, he can wholeheartedly say "obrigado" - thank-you!

After the success of the first CD, the duo Piano Meets Vibes presents its second release, Duo Fantasie. The path taken on the first silver disk, creating tonal worlds and relating intelligent but not intellectual musical stories and pictures, is continued on the new work in an even more intensive and consistent manner. An inspired mixture of jazz, folk, minimal music and Latin forms the foundation for the expressive compositions by the two musicians. The direct relationship between the titles and the compositions makes it possible for the listener to easily immerse himself in the music and experience it as personal images. In an exciting, melancholy, playfully happy, as well as meditative, way, personal experiences have been turned into sounds here. A fulminate tango, the moving ballad about the sudden death of a friend (Ballad for André), the hypnotic-mediative minimal music (Mimicry), as well as the virtuoso translation of experienced inspiration (Aziza, Duo Fantasie) are just a few examples of the greatly diversified and expressive character of this new CD by Piano Meets Vibes. The composing and playing experience from the seven years of their musical working relationship reach a new peak on this production.

The musicians behind the Piano Meets Vibes are the pianist Jens Schliecker and the mallet player Nils Rohwer, vibraphone and marimba. They already chalked up two recordings with Acoustic Music ("Piano Meets Vibes," 1994 and "Duo Fantasie," 1996), that were received with enthusiasm by the critics and the public. When together, they show especially good form. They don’t have to obey any conventions or fit into and drawers, instead they can totally live out their multifaceted musical visions without any inhibitions. Their new CD, “Bilder einer Reise” (Images Of A Journey) describes the impressions, energies and inspirations that these musicians have experienced during their journey. Piano Meets Vibes is a vivacious cosmos of sounds that resist any categorization that might be too superficial. This music represents an acoustic tableau with an impressionistic touch, colorful, alive, playful, meditative. The two musicians take time to spread out broad and flowing themes, to revel in dense harmonic layering, to build up taut rhythmic structures. With "Bilder einer Reise," Piano Meets Vibes has once again confirmed that they are the most inspiring and expressive duo on the German scene.

In his duo with the jazz singer Susanne Vogt, US guitarist Woody Mann puts all of his experience into action to generate an astonishingly variegated and powerfully sonorous work with his extensive string knowledge. Woody demonstrates his class not only as a soloist who weaves a dense and robust harmonic and rhythmic net. Susanne Vogt is one of the most spotlighted German jazz singers – a fact that earned her the Cultural Funding Prize of the city of Kassel. Within the setting of the intimate duo with Woody Mann, she can bask in all the refinements of her vocal art and enjoys the widest leeway possible. This is also revealed in the repertoire selection: Touches of ragtime, blues, jazz, musette waltzes and charming swing, in addition to ballads. In sum: "Waltz For Joy" by Susanne Vogt and Woody Mann is an outstanding duo recording with acoustic guitar and voice that sets new standards with its diversity.
