Masa Sumide is a celebrated star in the Land of the Rising Sun. Together with his band, Signal, he has had major chart hits there and to this day enjoys cult status. But in the past decade, Sumide has also earned himself a top reputation as an excellent solo artist and a skilled fingerstyle guitarist. As a self-taught musician, Sumide has developed an entirely individual style, playing a rhythmic steelstring, using various tunings and a phenomenal combination of body percussion and grooving slap techniques. This expressive performance on the instrument makes Masa Sumide a real one-man band. Yet, one seeks in vain any influences from Japan’s musical tradition in Sumide’s guitar style. His performance is an eclectic aggregation of American West-Coast music, fusion-jazz and funk. The title of his latest album could serve as the signature for his complete opus so far: “Born To Groove”.

Christian Bleiming is considered the Westphalian king of boogie-woogie. Bleiming's repertoire covers not only the classics of the genre, but also remarkable original compositions. "My Blue Boogie Style" offers thoroughly blues-saturated boogie. The most noticeable co-musician is the African-American singer Tommie Harris, who was given the honor of being inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. Ever since the 1998 CD "Boogie That Blues Away", Bleiming has been considered one of the greats, with a deep-seated feeling for the blues. By the same token, Bleiming's typically wild boogie piano with good-humored fills over the rolling bass figures of the left hand are given enough space.

Once upon a time, a highly gifted Japanese guitarist came across the Ventures and was swept up by the Nashville sound. Later, his principal inspiration was Les Paul, Jerry Reed, James Burton and Chet Atkins. Ever since, "Dr. K." has turned into a studio professional and has enhanced countless sessions. He has also released instructional videos explaining his special technique. "A Strange Tale" is a crossover country-rock album with a relaxed and unforced mood. But listening closely, you can detect wonderfully carved arrangements and perfect instrumental sounds exhibiting an impeccable sense of aesthetics. Dr. K. celebrates this mix of country, folk, bluegrass and rock ‘n’ roll with big band orchestration using several acoustic electric guitars, pedal steel, bass, drums and keyboards. It might have come from the top Nashville studio.
