“Nachmittag eines Fauns” (“Afternoon Of A Faun“) is a sound experience of an unusual kind.
Two of Germany’s most individual guitarists have embarked here on an intense trip. How these two string heroes ever put themselves in the right mood for this recording is irrelevant, the result is remarkable and cannot be slipped into any drawer. Never has one heard Mahler, Debussy and the songs of Dylan, Hendrix and Miles Davis (and own compositions) in such a manner. “Afternoon Of A Faun” is an orgy of off-the-wall sounds, even stranger sonorous insertions and virtually indescribable sound attacks. What these two guitarists spread out before the amazed and slightly shocked listener combines pure beauty with all sorts of oddities and alienations.
When enjoying the CD, one should be as fearless as the musicians were when they recorded it.
