Alex Warner sings of memories, love and friendship - actually, nothing unusual for a singer/songwriter. However, the candid approach to songs is what makes Alex Warner such a special musician. Songwriting, for him, is not the quest for commercial success, but rather the search for the optimal song. And there are several of the sort on "Green To Blue." In spite of the musical influence of Peter Gabriel, Marc Cohn, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt and Tom Petty, he has always maintained his own style.

Since 1996, Eddie Nünning has been collaborating with the Essen singer Christiane Weber in the duo "To Be Two". The two of them create a wonderful musical unity in which the orchestral playing style of the guitarist is given full credit. Christiane Weber’s crystal-clear voice hovers and dances over the chords and grooves of Nünning’s nylon-string guitar. For their CD “Everything”, the two musicians put together a repertoire of their favorite songs. The album reveals highly individual interpretations of jazz standards ("Lullaby Of Birdland"), Latin tunes ("Dindi"), blues songs ("Route 66") and ballads ("Everything"). There are other works, too, by Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Van Morrison. Seldom have two been heard, who can complement each other so well and can give voice to the idea of a duo in such a multifaceted and adaptable manner. The listeners will often rediscover songs they thought they already knew.

On their new CD the group To Be Two presents a wide-ranging collection of songs around the theme “the seasons”. Singer Christiane Weber and guitarist Eddie Nünning merge different styles and moods into new, yet, for them, typically distinctive arrangements. Jazz standards, as well as songs from Carole King, The Who, George Harrison, Tori Amos and, for the first time, their own compositions combine to create a “cycle of seasons” that has its own special kind of atmosphere. The works are partly temperate, partly powerful and unfold in subtle, groovy arrangements. Christiane Weber mesmerizes the listener with her incredibly versatile voice, underscored by Eddie Nünning’s almost orchestral-like nylon string fingering style.

Eddie Nünning is a genuine master talent when it comes to groove and song accompaniment. His command of orchestral play is unique, and he has a special knack for atmospheric arrangements and polished technique. Eddie Nünning’s new duo “Rainbow Sleeves” with the young singer Lara Schallenberg forms an intimate dream encounter providing an entire universe of possibilities for guitarist and singer. The repertoire of “Painted Songs” is well chosen: besides classics from the singer/songwriter tradition (amongst others by Neil Young, Elton John, Lennon/McCartney), it features more current songs in new garb (e.g. Silje Neergard, Prince, Tori Amos). Eddie Nünning’s textures woven from acoustic guitars with a discrete guitar synthesizer carry Lara Schallenberg’s voice, which varies from girlish to erotic. Together, they add a new, sensual element to the guitar/vocal duo genre.

These two must really love their songs. It’s the only way to explain the intensity and the magical aura of these recordings. On “From A Wooden House,” Eddie Nünning, a master guitarist of orchestral power, and Lara Schallenberg, a singer with a voice of many colors, interpret an artfully mixed repertoire of pop, rock, folk and Americana. Lara Schellenberg's girlish voice, covering the entire vocal expressive repertoire from gentle whisperings to stark overtones, sails above Eddie Nünning’s grandiose textures made acoustic and electric guitar sounds. Deep-seated mutual understanding between these two musicians and perfect interplay create a seldom encountered musical concentration. Nünning and Schallenberg lterally adopt the compositions (of Sting, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Tom Waits, amongst others) and extract an as of yet unheard musical essence from them. In short: an intimate and ideal pairing that opens up a new universe in the joining of guitar and voice.
